Bloomfield Chamber Minutes

The Bloomfield Chamber met at 6:30 a.m. for a breakfast and meeting at Elderland with nine members present.  President Nick Thiele called the meeting to order and the following business was conducted:

The Annual Awards Banquet will be at 6:30 p.m. on April 22 at Crowley Ridge Country Club.  Sue Welborn agreed to chair the banquet committee and will ask Ruth Strickland, June Hall and Valeria Leadbetter to assist. President Thiel will order plaques and Jim Mayo will compile a list of previous award recipients and chair the committee to select the 2010 awards.  Nick will contact Dr. Ken Dobbins, Southeast Missouri State University president, to be the banquet speaker.

Sue Mayo and Sue Welborn were appointed to serve on the membership committee and Paula Yancey will chair the Public Relations Committee that will schedule new-business ribbon cutting, etc.

Project for the year include:

1.      Research the possibility of placing a sign on Highway 25 that advertises       

      Bloomfield’s up-town business district (Prairie Street)

  1. Contribute to the purchase of  City Christmas decorations
  1. Organize Christmas on the Square
  1. Help with a Living History program at the Miller House
The next Chamber meeting will be Friday, March 18 at 6:30 a.m. at Elderland

  • Sue Welborn, Billy Pat Wright, Nick Thiele, Sue Mayo, Jim Mayo, Penny Shepard, Brock Williams, Donna Deardorff, June hall, Ruth Strickland.
  • Meeting was brought to order by President Nick Thiele at 1809 
  • Penny asked that the minutes be approved. Sue Welborn made a motion and Sue Mayo 2nd that motion. All ayes. 
  • Nick asked about the April 22nd chamber banquet.
1.      Sue Mayo stated last year we had about 60 plus in attendance that the chamber prepaid for.
2.      Ruth and June went to the country club and discussed the items for the banquet with them. Sue Mayo nominated the meal and 2nd by Donna Deardorff. The meal that was decided on is pork chops, slaw, baked potato, green beans, and cobbler.
3.      The tickets will be $12.50 a ticket for this event. Sue Welborn made the motion and June 2nd the motion. All ayes.
4.      June and Valeria is doing the decoration for the banquet. They were awarded $250.00 budget with a motion from Sue Welborn and 2nd by Penny Shepard. All ayes.
5.      Nick wanted to know where the previous plaques were ordered. Nick and Brock stated they would go through a catalog that Nick has from school and would order from them.
6.      Kim and Sue Welborn will visit YHCtv to promote the sales. 

·        Nick asked if we had any recipients in mind for the awards

1.      Organization of the year. The Masons were nomination by Sue Welborn and 2nd Penny Shepard. All ayes.
·        Brock Williams will present this award.

2.      Business of the year. Valeria’s Floral and Gifts was nominated by Jim Mayo and 2nd by June. All ayes.
·        Kim Johnson will present the award.

3.      Woman of the Year. Trish Vandeven was nominated by Penny Shepard and 2nd by Sue Welborn. All Ayes
·        Pam Elder will be asked to present this award.

4.      Man of the Year. Kenny Johnson was nominated by Jim Mayo and 2nd by Sue Mayo. All Ayes.
·        Sue Welborn will present this award.

5.      Lifetime achievement. Larry Walpole was nominated by Jim Mayo and 2nd by Sue Welborn. All Ayes.
·        Frank Sifford will present this award. 

·        Nick asked about business of the month. Donna nominated Classic Cuts and 2nd by Ruth. All ayes.
1.      Nick also stated that we need to make this a standing agenda. All members present agreed.
2.      There was some discussion about making criteria for this prestige. So far the Business needs to meet the following:
·        Chamber Member
·        Actively involved in the Chamber
·        A business is only eligible every 12 months
Jim stated we need to make more criteria and bring it back to the next meeting. Everyone agreed. 

·        Chamber of Commerce discussed sponsoring a dinner for B.A.N.C at $200.00 per Ruth. Sue Welborn nominated that the Chamber does this and 2nd by Brock. All ayes. 

·        Nick stated he would be present at the February 22nd meeting for the city and make sure we are all on the same page for the Christmas light donation. 

  • Nick stated we needed to discuss the Culpepper and Merriweather Circus thus far.
    1. Nick stated the City and Chamber still need proof of the circus insurance.
    2. Sue Mayo is collecting the telemarketing portion of the sales.
    3. Sue stated these telemarketing tickets will go to people that may not otherwise get to go. She also asked us to remember the nursing home.
    4. Nick stated the school would send out 2 different automated messages for this before the event.
    5. Nick stated that the school would be a point of reference to sell these tickets also.
    6. Sue Welborn asked about some of the circus proceeds going toward B.A.N.C. The subject was tabled due to the need of more info.
    7. Brock stated that Skeeter the clown would arrive a few days before to do P.R. for the event. She would go the school and nursing home.
    8. Brock stated he would get with YHCtv for advertisement as well as the local radio stations for DJ give away on the tickets.
       
  • Sue discussed the letter for dues.
    1.      She asked that we look at it so that she can make the necessary changes.
    2.      Billy Pat stated that it would be beneficial for us to do a bulk rate of $10.00 so that business could put their circular in the letter. He stated we could call Janet Coleman at 624-0421 about the details. 

    ·        Waynetta Rodgers, who is a hospice community educator, was present and made a presentation for Legacy Hospice, Inc. She did a great job and we thank her for her time.
